Our Programme Discription

The Orthopaedic Nursing Programme shall be a 12-months of two (2) semesters programme of study in approved institutions. The programme involves both theoretical and practical exposure of Students.

  • Our Philosophy

    • The Philosophy of Orthopaedic nursing is based on Orthopaedic nursing care delivery with focus on preventive, curative and rehabilitation using multidisciplinary approach.

    • Orthopaedic nursing is applicable to all areas of nursing, not just to the patient who has a bone fracture or some other pathological changes, but also to congenital and acquired skeletal change.

    • Health care delivery system must adopt a multidisciplinary approach this integrates promotive, curative and rehabilitative health measures at all levels.

Tuition Fees and Other Fees

  • All fees must be paid before resumption as stipulated in the admission letter. Fees not paid by the first week of admission will necessitate withdrawal from the programme.

Sponsorship

  • Student admitted into the programme/School must be fully sponsored by either self or their respective employers. No private practice is allowed during the course.

Accommodation

  • At the moment the course is not fully residential but there are few accommodation facilities for external students from outside Lagos. All accommodated students are expected to pay for their lodging.

Certification

  • At the successful completion of the programme, the NationalOrthopaedic Hospital Management Board issues a testimonial. The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria also issues a certificate when the conduct of final examination is fully taken over.

Our Admission Requirements

  • The Senior School Certificate (WAEC/NECO) with credit in at least five subject which include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two sittings

  • Be a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and possess a current practicing licence.

  • Experience in Accident & Emergency or Orthopaedic department of a hospital is an added advantage.

  • Admission is strictly by merit following proper selection procedure. Entrance Examination and Oral Interview in the 2nd quarter of the year. All Courses must be registered for within the first week of resumption. Students having paid all fees will be given registration number.

Other Programmes

  • Refresher Course: This is a 4 week course based on the Nursing & Midwifery council of Nigeria to educate Orthopaedic nurses who have not registered over the past 5 years and now wishes to register as a specialty nurse in the field of Orthopaedics.
  • Mock Disaster Demonstration: This is a periodic demonstration for students of the school to acclimatize themselves with Nursing responsibilities/ responses disaster situations, on-site rescue, and management.
