The Honourable Minister of State for Health & Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako paid an official visit to National Orthopaedic Hospital, lgbobi, Lagos today as part of efforts to assess the state of healthcare facilities and enhance the quality of care in specialist hospitals across Nigeria.
Upon arrival, the Minister was warmly received by the Hospital Management and proceeded with a tour, beginning with an inspection of key service areas.
The Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, Dr. Mustapha Faiz Alimi, ably represented by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Wakeel Lawal, provided an overview of the Hospital's services. He stated that the Hospital was established to provide Orthopaedic, Traumatology, and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery services to Nigerians and West African countries.
He added that the Hospital has expanded its scope to include other sub-specialties such as Arthroplasty (total hip and knee replacement surgery), Spine Surgery, Oncology, Arthroscopy, and Paediatric Orthopaedic.
Additionally, he informed the Minister that the Hospital has also established training institutions, including the Federal College of Orthopaedic Technology and, more recently, the College of Nursing Sciences.
In response, the Honourable Minister commended the management and staff for their dedication to providing highly specialized healthcare services. He acknowledged that these efforts contribute to making healthcare in Nigeria top-notch.
Furthermore, he assured the Management that efforts would be made to address some of the hospital’s challenges to improve the quality of services provided.
He therefore also urged the management and staff to continue introducing new services and enhancing the quality of care, reinforcing the hospital’s role as a center of excellence in orthopaedic and trauma care.
