    • The hospital has grown in leaps since it was specifically designed a WHO Collaborating Center for Research and Training in 1979 and some of the service delivery areas now include trauma, burns and plastic surgery.
    • Other therapeutic services include making of Orthopaedic shoes, fitting of prostheses (artificial limbs) and support like fracture braces; spinal/ cervical orthoses; provision of physiotherapy services and diagnostic services.
    • Research and Training of Residency Doctors, Orthopaedic Technology, Plaster Technician, Orthopaedic Health Assistant and Post Basic Nursing School in Orthopaedic and Accident and Emergency Services.

  • The first and the largest centre in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa for the management and rehabilitation of Orthpaedic, trauma and accident cases.
  • The First solely Orthopaedic Residency Training Center which commenced in 1981 (68% of all consultant orthopaedic surgeons in the country passed through this center).
  • The First Center to train Prosthetics/Orthotics manpower at the ND and HND levels in Nigeria (the Center is now known as the Federal College of Orthopaedic Technology (FECOT); a JAMB, NBTE and ISPO approved/recognized Monotechnic for the study of Prosthetics/Orthotics.
  • The First Center to train Plaster Room Technicians in Nigeria. The Center has now transformed into a School of Orthopaedic Cast Technology and will soon be awarding ND and HND in Cast Technology as the NBTE has approved the Curriculum for the commencement of the programme.
